technically 'hey joe' is pretty simple. it's just C G D A E over and over. it's what you do with those chords that makes it a little tougher hehe

alright i think we've grilled ratt more than enough. playing the main riff to black dog after a month isn't that outlandish of a claim especially depending on your background and the environment you grow up in. it's not like he's talking himself up as some virtuoso.

Is that why we're all ripping on me? Shit, Black Dog really isn't that hard. Really.

no its not. its just that when i had played a month, i could barely play smells like teen spirit. maybe you started off learning just scales or something like that, but i could not handle hammer ons and pull offs like that after a month of playing. first song i learned was come as you are, and that took me like 3 hours. that was the same day i picked up a guitar for the first time in my life. i think thats pretty average. and i would hardly say i have trouble learning instruments. probably the other way around.

Well, Chiva, as reliable as it may often be, using your own experience as a barometer for everyone else isn't always accurate.

it's like the difference between learning chords or learning notes first. if you start off by listening to zeppelin and focus on how the instrument comes through in that style of music you'll be a little more predisposed to play that style. your brain is already thinking in those rhythms and melodies when you pick up the instrument. it's not that one style is better than the other it's just different aspects of the same idea.

well, ive known other people learning to play the guitar. usually, your not that good after a month.
maybe you just have it in you and/or you practised alot at the right things.
i started playing scales about 7 or 8 months into my playing.

I learned scales first. I was always taught that learning the notes before the chord will give me a much brighter perspective on the way chords are structured. For example, a major chord is basically made of the first, the third and the fifth, so if you can recognize those notes anywhere up the fretboard and in any key, making that particular chord becomes considerably easier. One might argue that keeping the form of, say, an E chord, and transposing it further along the fretboard, might be easier to learn, but if you can see the fretboard in such a manner as I've described (which I don't entirely, yet ) reveals a miriad of different ways in which said chord can be formed.
Or that's what I was taught.
