i for one respect kanye for what he said. if katrina had hit new hampshire of any other predominantly affluent, white place, the responce would have been quicker. i dont think he said it just to gain popularity. he simply put into words what many americans, white AND black are thinking, that the responce to and media coverage of katrina's aftermath have been influenced greatly by issues of race and class. i was watching TV when a reporter commented that "most of these people are underpriviledged anyway so these situations work just fine for them". doesnt that statement make you want to kill someone?? that is the kind of thing kanye west was talking about and as one would expect, the pictures being shown were those of a big mass of black folks. i am a foreigner living in the US and this has been my first experience of a multi-racial society and i have to say, blacks and latinos get the short end when it comes to media portrayal.

Kanye West is a moron, no matter how you look at it. "George Bush doesn't care about black people", yea because New Orlean's population is 100% black. Now I read that Jay Z is backing him 100% and they're thinking about having a benifit concert that will only help black people. No matter which way you look at that, it's stupid, period.
But I will admit the clip itself is hilarious. Michael Myers heaving breathing, and Chris Tucker's face makes me laugh everytime I see it.

you're completely wrong, and here's why.
it is fair to say that in america blacks are still underrepresented, particularly in new orleans. new orleans is 67% African American and only 28% White, that is a BIG majority, of which about 25% are below poverty line and many many more just above/on the line.
here's the important bit. the number of people still left in new orleans, and the number of dead (time will show) are WELL OVER THOSE PERCENTAGES. this may be down to the economic situation rather than explicit racism, granted, but ask yourself HOW these black people are in that economic situation. its because of underrepresentation, federally and domesticly.
you don't think there's any racism going on in new orleans???the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and other white run federal agencies knew of numerous reports that New Orleans was in imminent danger of a major catastrophe because the levy system that holds back the sea needed upgrading. instead, federal funds designated to fix the dikes were cut. and look at the goddamned emergency response!

with attidutes like THAT in supposedly the greatest country on earth i think kanye was justified, nay required, to say something to the contrary. Things like that NEED to be said, even if they are not completely accurate.
