Harmonicas or Blues Harp

I just picked up a harmonica about a month ago, and it's a really nice instrument. Very powerful and diverse. I have a one that is in the key of C but I think I want to try a lower key . I was also wondering if there are any harmonica players I should really be listening to. I love blues harmonica and jazz harmonica but I also like to hear them in rock songs also. I would like to know the names of good harmonica players because I would like to listen and learn. I really love this instrument and I think that if you are looking to pick up a new instrument, you should give it a try.

Haha, my friends and I used to joke that you're not really into harp if you're asked "What harp players are good" and you respond "The guy from Blues Traveller."

I suggest that you listen to Sonny Boy Williamson, James Cotton, Little Walter, and Paul Butterfield.

well if you think the guy from blues traveler CAN'T play, you must be very good indeed.

At risk of repeating myself check out Yoko Kano and the Seatbelts from the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack for good harmonica playing. Generally most mediocre harmonica sounds exactly the same, unlike the guitar or piano you've not got much room to maneouver, but some of the Seatbelts tracks are quite novel and interesting.

I agree. The Seatbelts have made a lot of music that I don't like, since it's so varied (I got the limited edition Cowboy Bebop CD set that came out a few years ago), but the harmonica music is great, as is the big band stuff. Good to see you around again.
