Anyone work at HMV?

anyone here work at HMV?

i was strolling through the mall and i thought that may be a cool place to have a part time job while i go to school. seems like easy work... stock shelves, ring stuff through the register, talk to a bunch of boneheads about music, and talking to the odd dude who knows his music. do you get any employee discounts?

ihava friend who works at HMV. it is dirt simple- basically you juste hav to show up and be cool and yule get on juste fine. as an employee you get whatever they sell at cost.

throw them a resume and be cool and it might be cool enough work for while yure in school.

I tried to get a job at Virgin Megastore, but those jerks didn't even have the consideration to phone me the fact that I din't get it. But then again, I would spent alot of money on CD's, which would be pretty bad.

I worked at the Warehouse, two Tower Records and Amoeba Records in Berkeley (the San Francisco store is biggest and best record store in the fucking world, just in case you didn't know). My strategy for getting a music store job got me the second, third and fourth jobs listed above and helped many of my friends land jobs at cool stores like Streetlight in SF and elsewhere. If the store is decent (i.e. not the Warehouse) there is a spot somewhere on the application where they ask what your favorite bands are. In that spot, skip writing band names and instead list every kind of music you listen to and/or that you've ever heard of, and be prepared to name a few of each as examples.

It also typically helps if you call them back rather than waiting for them to call you, but isn't that true of applying for any job in general?

I did call them back, and it took several times to finally get their answer.

And in the informal group interview, I strutted my knowledge of grunge and Mother Love Bone. So, I kicked ass at that part. At least there is pretty much nothing I would buy at my current job, so my bank account is safe.
