i'm starting with a flu so this isn't going to be as in depth as some of my earlier posts in here but whatever
the intro to 'the crimson' by atreyu isn't really that rough, good for developping right hand picking technique and pinky finger spiff. it varies between the A minor chord shape and F with the little finger on your left hand providing the flash to the piece. all in all i'd say it's a good intermediate part to learn. once you get that down if you want to try something a little more challenging i'd recommend the intro to 'under the bridge' by the red hot chili peppers
sammo - your crazy blues tune hurt me. then again i don't have a slide and my lighter just wasn't cutting it

. i'm not 100% on the tuning but right now i'm using some sort of open D thing. from low to high - D A D F# A D (that might even be the real open D i'm not sure at the moment heheh)
i'm not 100% on this but this is what i figured out in the last two hours or so.
D--0-3p0-0-3-0--0-/5-5-\3-\2-0--0-2-0--/5-5-5-5-5--/5-5-\3-\2-0----
A-----------------------------------------------******----------------------
D-----------------------------------------------******----------------------
the beauty about playing in an open tuning is that you don't need to really do anything to play the chord just strum more than one string. the part with the **** can have a bit more oomph to the strum. don't worry so much about picking the string just make sure that it's the loudest note coming through while you strum everything else just adds to the thickness of the sound. the slashes represent the direction of the slide leading into the note. personally i'd only use the slide for the solo in this song, i find the low strings sound beefier when played with your fingers and you can still slide the note around
/ = slide up (from a lower fret on the neck)
\ = slide down (from a higher fret to the target note)
once it kicks in there are only a few variations on the same riff
D----------------0-0------0-0----
A----------------0-0------0-0----
F#---------------0-0------0-0----
D---2/3---0-0-0-----0-0---------
A---2/3---0-0-0-----0-0---------
D---2/3---0-0-0-----0-0---------
that seems to be the general idea behind most of the verse. then there are these variations.
D--------------------------0-0------0-0----
A--------------------------0-0------0-0----
F#-------------------------0-0------0-0----
D---3/5---5-\3-\2--0-0-0-----0-0---------
A---3/5---5-\3-\2--0-0-0-----0-0---------
D---3/5---5-\3-\2--0-0-0-----0-0---------
^^this one ends most of the lines in the verse^^
D-------------------0-0------0-0----
A-------------------0-0------0-0----
F#------------------0-0------0-0----
D---3/5-5--3--0-0-----0-0---------
A---3/5-5--3--0-0-----0-0---------
D---3/5-5--3--0-0-----0-0---------
^^this is similar to what's being played when he sings 'change my life'. sometimes he just stops on the G (5th fret) and strums that chord for a bit.
and the solo... hehe
D---/12--/12--/12-----12-\--\--\--\-------/5--/5--/5---/12\--/12--/12----/7--/5---
A---/12--/12--/12-----12-\--\--\--\-------/5--/5--/5---/12\--/12--/12----/7--/5---
F#--/12--/12--/12-----12-\--\--\--\-------/5--/5--/5---/12\--/12--/12----/7--/5---
D------------------------12-\--\--\--\----- --------------------------------------------
^^most of those chords are strummed like mad and usually have a quick slide down the neck before starting the next barrage. i'm not entirely sure on the middle descending part but i'd just play it on a string higher (as noted) and give good solid downstrokes while you slide down the neck on your way to the Gs and back into the strumming fury.
after the solo it kicks back into the first riff and the variations. all in all i don't think this is one of those songs that's supposed to be recreated the 'right' way ever hehehe so long as you know the gist of it just go crazy with the rhythm and play it like you mean it. hehehe
and chiva - did you ever get the hang of that SRV thing?
