Ray Charles - Complete Atlantic Recordings (1952-1959)

With the Jelly Roll Morton - Library of Congress, Miles Davis - Cellar Door Sessions 1970, Monk & Coltrane - Carnegie Hall, and now the Brother Ray set, September has turned into an excellent month for reissues/releases.

27 unreleased tracks by Brother Ray and a DVD of his peformance at the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival.

They're are no coincidences when Satchmo is around, which is why I am Satchmo and you're only a potential Grasshoppa.

You call that a Grasshoppa?

P.S. For the few people that might actually believe the picture. It's not real. Just a hoax picture from the 30's.

Why do you always need ten times more blank space than written words in your posts?

That particular recording will be this:

A heads up, whenever possible you're better off getting the Japanese imports over the U.S. versions. While more expense, the vast majority of the time, they sound better. Even the Japanese RVG's sound better in most cases to the U.S. RVG's. It was a crazy situation. Both Blue Note/EMI & Toshiba/EMI would each have RVG do a seperate remaster for the same recording. Of late, they have gotten their act together and are doing a single remaster.

In the early days though, the Japanese releases never had any bonus and alternate tracks. The Japanese, just wanted them released as they were on the original lps. Recently, they have started to reissue them with bonus & alternate takes.
