Your Favorite Song by The Smiths
I'm on another one of my extreme Smiths kicks lately, what is your favorite song by them?
I'd have to say my favorite song by The Smiths by far is "Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me". I adore everything about this song - it's emotion, Morrissey's lyrics, song structure, melancholy, winterry atmostphere, the role of the drums and bass, but especially the lyrics and vocals.
Please share with me what your favorite Smiths song is, and tell me why if you like.

have you heard Low's cover of that song? I like that one a lot too, both in the original and the Low version...
I'll have to think a bit about my favourite Smiths song at the moment, it's actually been a while since I've last listened to them...

go away, my psuedo-80's lame girlfriend of ten-years-ago thought that was their best song...
their best (an incomplete list): The Queen is Dead (political), This Night Has Opened My Eyes (Social), Still Ill (a combination of the two...), and... Asleep (morbidly melancholy), Please Please Please Let Me Get Me What I Want (ditto, plus that whole Ferris thing...), Unhappy Birthday (unrequited hatred), Back to the Old House (simple musical brilliance), Girl Afraid (a perfect description of teenage misery), Pretty Girls Make Graves (same), and about a hundred other songs that basically make up their entire catalog... (it would take an entire book to describe why these, and all their, songs are so fucking excellent, amazing, kick ass, solid, anyway you name it...wonderful...)

As must be obvious, I am not the greatest fan/expert on the band. Also the question was never which song I thought was best, but rather my favourite at the moment, and that one came to mind.

After listening to their entire catalog relentlessly for the last five days I've decided that 'Still Ill' is...probably...my favorite Smiths song. But, I can't decide which version like like better...

Without a doubt it would have to be "Please Let Me Get What I Want"... or maybe "Heaven Knows Im Miserable Now". I should definately buy some more Smiths material, just never get around to it

"How Soon Is Now?" I used to get really, really drunk and hit on lots of pretty girls while dancing to it. It was a song that represented my carefree attitude towards life, a nice, catchy number to which I could ask other drunk people for a light, or the score of the Red Wings game.
