I would have to disagree with ya there...sure, they got great drummers:

Raymond Herrera from Fear Factory
Guy from Mudvayne
Guy from Slipknot
Vinnie Paul from Pantera

but c'mon, you gotta be kidding me...they have rudiment skills, true, but ya gotta look at jazz to find the best drummers...

Max Roach
Buddy Rich
Jack DeJohnnette
Tony Williams
Gene Krupa
Art Blakey
James Cobb

...and the list goes on

guess they are 2 totally different styles, but personally, from being a drummer for 10 yrs, I would say the "jazz" style is a lot harder to play than a "metal" style...I played in rock/metal bands in the past and I could basically improvise, but when it comes to jazz, I gawk at some the things I see them do on a 5 piece set, and I just cheer to guys that play rampantly on a 20 piece one...

sorry, didn't quite answer your question in the last one:

yes, they have talent...if they didn't, they wouldn't sell records or tickets...

its just what "the people want" basically...I find jazz musicians a whole lot more talented than some of the shit that's out there today, but do they sell as many albums, nope!

I don't like people that generally say another genre has no talent, all of them (for the most part) are different. So one persons skills may only sound good with one type of music. Like. "One man's trash is another man's treasure" I'd tell your friend (if they were my friend) to grow up.

Yeah I agree with MR2.

It's like saying can pop singers sing, or how long is a rope... It all depends on who it is etc.

I'd just slap him/her. And then put on your headphones and jump around. But make sure you have on Hikaru Hikari, or else it just won't work.
But anyway, those kids who say one "kind" of music is "no good" or something, and mean it as a "fact" are just ignorant. I make fun of Emo here and there, but only in good fun. Music is music, like it or don't. They can always read books, and say that all History books are overrated. Which I'm sure many people do. =\.
