Recommend me some FUNK

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone knew any decent early funk they'd like to recommend to me. Know any good artists I won't have heard of?

Don't mind the past thread Nazi, I'll recommend some funk right here where you asked.
Certainly you know James Brown, Sly & the Family Stone, Parliment, et cetera, but for some less chartered funk frontier try some of the fusion work between funk and jazz. Donald Byrd, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and War. For purer funk, but still with a hint of fusion, try Trouble Funk, The Meters, or Booty's Rubber Band.

How 'bout:

Black Nasty - Talking to the People
The Fatback Band - Just about anything out of the '70's.
The Bar-Kays
The Ohio Players

There is a music set that's 4 discs called, "The Big Payback." It was released in 2000 by Clubm records. Here is the the CDnow link.

If you can find it grab it. This set has four discs worth of obscure 70's funk. Killer!!!!

The cover is attached.

Personally, I'd go with The Meters or Wayne Krantz. Though if you want something more funky modern, you might want to check out Primus.
