he's a good producer, but I think his techno background would hurt his credibility as a great programmer. Not putting down techno producers, by any account, it's just when I talk about great programmers, they have to have a distinct quality about their style, an intricateness, or just an aesthetic of greatness.

but i understand your point josh. i just feel shocking hobby was meaningful in therms of its drums.

i think elliot perkins might not be as tecnical but i also see him as influential.

my vote is for either autechre or beefcake.

you know who i think is really good? steve. i mean i know how young he is and all that but i really look up to him as a drum programmer.

i am not very familiar with download but i remeber them as very good at programming.

Yeah, Phonem is a good producer definitely. Steve is good yes, but I must say that the majority of his works are from other producers. His skills on the minimal programs he uses is top notch, I must give him that. The fact that he takes the samples and makes them sound completely original is a great thing, and I respect him for that. He's progressed as a programmer, there's no doubt about that.

Download which are mostly people from Skinny Puppy and a few others are good as well, but I wouldn't put them in this class.

i care more about the product than about the method. biosphere and amon tobin use almost exclusively samplers and i see them as two of the best producers worlwide.

see, I love it when someone can make an intricate album with the simplist of things. That's why I said I respect Steve so much and my earlier comment about Squarepusher. Still amazes me that he made 'Hard Normal Daddy' on equipment (hardware) that cost less than 700-1000 dollars

yes me too, but the thread is about who has the most advanced methods, techniques, and overall "programming power". If we were talking about the finished product, then this thread would be "who makes the best electronic music" which would be way too hard.
