It just me, or is Steve Wilson's voice kind of... aggravating?
I've been listening through some Porcupine Tree stuff I ripped from In Absentia and Deadwing... After a while, I began to think to myself... "Shut up, man, just shut up..."
I've got nothing against anything else. The band, the lyrics; copacetic. His voice isn't even that bad. I guess it's kind of childish, but Steve, could ya get someone else to sing? Please?

I've actually given up on Porcupine Tree. They are a band I really wanted to like, but I just couldn't get into them. The vocals are nothing to hang a hat on, but I don't know that I would consider that the band's major failing.

Given that he's been the primary singer/songwriter/producer/guitarist of the PT name for over a decade, Wilson giving up vocal chores would be highly unlikely. I think I'd be less surprised if Eddy Vedder shelved his voice on record...
...as a side note, I have to say that Deadwing has to be the most accurately titled release of the year. What a piece of crap.

Yeah, well, watcha gonna do...
I've always embraced any weirdness or ambiguity that a band will excrete, but don't get the impression that I'll polish every turd that comes flying in my direction. I agree, PT's only falling isn't in its entirety the vocals, but the rest of their (minor) problems don't really get on my nerves as much. I don't even think the vocals are that bad. They just piss me off in a way that's kind of a hard to understand.
Come to think of it, Dave Matthews's voice bugs me in the same way, even though they're completely different.

Big PT fan's disgust!
I can't say I disagree with members review of Deadwing. It certainly is not the same PT I fell in love with so many years ago. I'm not sure why Steve decided to take his music in Deadwing direction, but I am disappointed to say the very least. He has replaced his darker, melodic, psychedelic sound and poisoned it with a pathetic metal edge. Not that I hate metal music, but I love only true metal. This doesn't work for me in any genre. C'mon Steve! You even know it's true....that is why you have decided to re-cut and re-release some of your oldies. Don't go mainstream so I have to share venue space with an audience full of wanna-be, top 40's teenie boppers! The last show I went to I had to listen to kids trying to skill me on this new band called PT. Hello! Your true underground fans have been loving you for 12+ years. Keep driving toward Deadwing's sound and I think you will only hit Dead Ends in your future. You're killin' me!!
