Personally I wouldn't touch a pay service. Ever. Here at Radiomute, just one forum, we could probably come up with more songs that the service does NOT offer than ones that they do. To me, the biggest aspect of accessing, sharing and listening to music using internet as a tool was not to be stuck in the very musical ruts in which Napster currently finds itself. I have absolutely no idea what music I currently enjoy that I would have missed out on without this powerful a communication tool. I guess I would find out if I only listened to what Napster had to offer.
Still, the worst problem is still the act of paying for files, and then only being able to use these files under limited circumstances. It is legal, by contrast, to record a CD you've purchased multiple times for yourself, or rip it onto all of the computers that you specifically use; home, work for example. Napster seems more interested in ensuring that you do not enjoy the same liberties with their product, which is already inferior to the CD itself. I do still buy those from time to time
