Recommend me some bands, please.
Ah, I'm too lazy to get too much into this. I just throw a few band names (some recent favs) and then you're free to recommend me some good bands to listen to. I'm trying to dig myself into some alternative/indie type of thing so please, if you could...
I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, folks.
So here's some recent ones: They Might Be Giants, The Mountain Goats ( love 'em ), The Decemberists, CocoRosie, Elliot Smith, Mew, Modest Mouse, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nick Cave, Metric, Phish, Pixies, Portishead, The Shins, The Cure, Björk...etc.
So, that's how lazy I am. That might just be one of the lousiest lists ever but try to get something out of it. The bands you recommend don't necessarily have to be anything like those bands I've mentioned there as long as they're good. So, go for it! Thanks.

You can also mention some good albums to start with by the artists you recommend. Thanks.

Right, that's something I've heard. Well I'm not the biggest Belle&Sebastian fan but I like them, they are quite ok I think.

I've got their Monday at the Hug and Pint album and I don't think that it is too amazing at all. Indie with synth-beats is the best I can describe them to be.

Most of these don't really make sense to suggest given the artists you mentioned in the first post. I also am not sure if you've heard them before. I think you may enjoy these anyway -
Leonard Cohen (Anything really)
Bauhaus (Dark Entries, Dancing, Ziggy Stardust (Bowie cover), Kick in the Eye, Hair of the Dog)
The Smiths (Last Night I Dreamt That Somebody Loved Me, Cemetry Gates)
Tom Waits (Telephone Call From Istanbul, All the World is Green, Singapore, Such a Scream)
Primus (Jerry was a Race Car Driver, Is it Luck?, My Name is Mud, DMV)
Grateful Dead (Anything)
Killing Joke (Bloodsport)
David Bowie (Watch that Man, Ziggy Stardust, The Man Who Sold the World)
Pere Ubu (Petrified, Life Stinks)
Joy Divsion (She's Lost Control, Love Will Tear Us Apart)
and sure why not...The Residents. Check out "Duck Stab" / "Buster and Glen"
Hell, while I'm at it you might even enjoy Swans. They're an experimental band, but for a major portion of their career they produced more melodic, accessible indie rock-sih stuff. The album "Children of God" is kind of their transition into the more melodic stuff. You may want to try that one, (songs like "In My Garden") and probably their best album in their softer era - "White Light From the Mouth of Infinity".
