Just get one. I'll agree that their TV ads are horrible, but I haven't been able to touch a PC for 6 years now. It's amazingly liberating to be able to just use a computer to accomplish the tasks you set out to instead of spending most of your time trying to get things to work/get them fixed. OS X is fantastic -- all the security and stability of Unix with the most user-friendly GUI in the world -- that's not just Apple marketing fluff. It's strange to actually LOVE a piece of software, but I genuinely love OS X. I don't think I could comfortably use anything else.

Honestly, I've been in art school so long I sometimes forget that people still use PCs...

Well, I just got a MacBook and that's what I'm using right now(!)

What I meant by marketing stratergies was more things like Apple buying emagic and discontinuing production of good software like Logic on other systems and the whole charging 100s of dollars for Final Cut nodes on non-Mac versions while they were free for Macs. I figure that Macs are great anyway, and I don't like the fact that Apple felt that they needed to kind of force users on their systems.

But, hey, I've got one now, and I actually had a problem when I started it up once... the screen just stayed black and I had to restart. So those ads are all lies!

And I should also say, I kept my PC in pretty good shape, and I can only remember 2 or 3 times that it completely failed on me. I think the thing with PCs is that they're easy to mess up if you don't know what you're doing. Macs are made very idiot-proof.

i got alot out of this thread. very inspiring. it's nice to listen to everyones music while reading how they do it.

i guess i'm one of those handhelp tape recorder types. An idea or a melody or a segment of song pops into my head, and I try to record it as soon as possible while beat-boxing and humming it out at the same time. I sound like a kid playing with airplanes...vvrrrroomm ffff.

But all those files serve their purpose

Just noticed that.

That should have been $100,000+, not $100,000,000+. Yeah, our department doesn't have that kind of a budget, unfortunately.

I'm getting more into Live lately, as it's much more efficient in the use of software instrument plug-ins than Digital Performer -- the latter still being much better as a full-featured DAW for mixing and editing.

I'll jump on the Logic bandwagon once v.8 comes out, if it ever does. My ultimate goal is to be proficient w/ every major DAW for the Macintosh, with Tracktion, Nuendo, Deck & Logic still remaining.
