Well I pay to go to school, so yes.
All my home gear's purchased w/ an academic discount anyway, so it's not that impressive.

Oh, I forgot the control consoles. A few dozen Pro Controls w/ Edit & Fader packs, a Control 24 and now the department just ordered an Icon ($100,000,000+). Although, those are more tracking/mixing tools than composing tools.

Not a XL 9000 K, but not bad.
Is Keepnews still teaching you how to screw up reissues and turn liner notes into discussions about yourself, with an occasional mention of the actual musicians and music?

Our department used to have some SSL consoles, but they were so difficult and expensive to maintain (I think they were spending something like half of its original cost every few months in maintenance) that they went all out for the digital controllers.
We have had some old analogue consoles donated to us though, for the novelty and experience value.
(As for Keepnews, he never showed up -- too busy I suppose.)

1. As has been mentioned many a time, Satchmo is Old School.
2. There was about as much chance of him showing up, as any reissue he is involved in doesn't have one or 100 screw ups.

My home studio's still a major work in progress. I still need a decent control surface, interface & reference monitors. The control surface is likely going to be either M-Audio's ProjectMix I/O or Mackie's Control Universal so I can use it with Digital Performer, Pro Tools M-Powered & Logic, as I plan on using all three eventually (can't afford Logic right now, so it's going to be DP & PT for a while). I'm pretty set on MOTU's Ultralite as far as interfaces go (plenty of I/O for multichannel mixing, onboard monitoring & it looks like it is built to last), while the reference monitors are still up in the air. M-Audio has a cheap passive 5.1 set for under $500 -- probably sounds like crap, but its not as if I can afford 6 Mackies or JBLs at the momment. KRK's Rockits are looking promising.
Sometimes I miss my old course of study. Just pencils, pens & paper -- nice and cheap.

Well, I just ordered Kore & Komplete 4 from Native Instruments...
...now I'll just have to find some time to use this stuff once it gets here.

I'm trying to decide whether I should get a mac but I'm getting seriously distressed with Apple's marketing stratergies generally. That's turning me off big time.
I'm starting to think that I'll just go with Pure Data and not have to worry about anything else...
