SX was my favourite so far, but who knows...

Obviously you need a mac, but it couldn't hurt.

I'm using an Edirol UA-5 USB card which has been superceded for quite some time now.

I mainly use it to cut the latency down and because it has XLR inputs and a mic preamp in it. I still record in 16bit 44.1k to be honest, so I know that what I'm hearing is what you hear on the CD.

I use a wide array of tools to compose my music. First there's inspiration, or even a muse helps. I like to write about actual emotions, current and past situations, friends, lovers, enemies on so on.

With that said, I get in front of my PC and the rest takes its course. With all the powerful software out there it's limitless as to what you can accomplish. I like to use Cakewalk Sonar, FL Studio, Native Instruments and so on. I also plug in my Strat and use NI Guitar Rig, it totally blows me away.

Music is my therapy and personal journal, I do not know what I would do without it.

Regards,
Effective Now

Inspiration is the biggest problem I've had over the last 6 months, but a mate of mine has given me some really good ideas so I'm working with them.

Ditto. Once I got a decent setup, my creativity took a dive. Hopefully it comes back...

(I've noticed you on OSXAudio.com too Keef, when did you give the PC the flick?)

2- take a long break and listen to a lot of other people's music

Right now Im full of inspiration, I think its showing. I go through these long periodes of a mood that really effect where I draw inspiration from. I have almost every song Ive ever made on my itunes in chronological order and you can tell a huge difference in the atmosphere and mood.

I'd guess you'd call them phases or possibly albums.

I have a second hurdle after inspiration and that's the whole production stage. That is, after a spurt of inspiration I find myself struggling to translate it into the software. I suppose the only way to overcome this is practice.

But it can be really destructive. I've completely abandoned ideas in the past because of it.
