Tricky by name & by nature. His first LP is a classic, his second less so but still great, his third and fourth defy repeated listens but still worthy experiments, the man is uncompromising in his vision and I respect him for that. Tricky can be a whole lot darker than Massive Attack and his music can be extreme but I think his time will soon be due again and a reavaluation of his work will gain him the cudos he deserves.

unbelievably wrong. Sinead O'Connor is that albums greatest strength. she has one of the greatest voices in the history of music- to describe it as "annoying" or anything less than "amazing" is sheer ignorance and blaspheme.

100th Window has its moments- mostly thanks to Sinead, as well as a couple other tracks- but it drags far too much at points to be considered up in the ranks of Blue Lines and Mezzanine.

ha- imustve really blindsided you with that one, eh? sorry ididnt elaborate, but isuppose iwas simply in the mood (or only had time) for one quick, cutting one-liner.

now ill offer a little explanation. im not sayin that Massive Attack isnt brilliant or that overall Tricky is superior or even as good. but ibelieve your comment was something to the effect that Tricky hasnt done anything remotely close to the achievements of Massive Attack and in that you are certainly wrong.

Maxinquaye, Nearly God and Pre-Millenium Tension are all classic records that stack up juste fine beside Blue Lines, Protection and Mezzanine. in fact, id say the best album out of those six is Maxinquaye, for as brilliant as Mezzanine's a-side is, it does slip some on the second half. Maxinquaye doesnt hav four tracks to compete with Mezzanine's opening quartet of "Angel", "Risingson", "Teardrop" and "Inertia Creeps"-few albums do- but it is likely more solid a listen front to back.

Tricky has put out some real shite too, and a lot of redundancy, but hes also been significantly more prolific than Massive Attack. id say Massive Attack's catalogue is stonger than that of Tricky overall, but Tricky certainly has moments to parallel (if not surpass) his former bandmates.

sorry to butcher your posts, but it was something to that effect right? i listened to Maxinquaye and it's pretty...okay, but i don't think it can compete with Mezzanine (or even the first Lamb album). quite frankly there isn't much going on; perhaps Tricky is 'minimalist trip-hop'? and

why would anyone sample Suffer by the Smashing Pumpkins, when it's already a superior song? it's like remaking Citizen Kane (Suffer's not that good, but you get the idea); there's no hope of surpassing the original.

Mezzanine featured Elizabeth Fraser for fuck's sake.

givmeabreak. you piss and moan about my not giving any explaination and then when ifinally oblige you follow with this? imean, wheres the grattitude?- hahaha.

honestly though, you should really take another good listen to Maxinquaye- and then another and then five more. if yure as much a Massive Attack fan as you say but you only find Maxinquaye to be "pretty...okay" then yure juste missing it for some reason. even if you want to argue that it is not as good as Blue Lines or Mezzanine (which is a fair arguement) or even Lamb's self-titled (which is less of an arguement), Maxinquaye is still one of the seminal and greatest trip-hop albums.

your remarks about the Pumpkins sample and the suggested case-closed factor of Elizabeth Fraser's guest appearance make no sense and only make it more obvious that you need to listen to more Tricky before you criticize further.

Samoan Joe's Barman: You want a pint, you go to the pub.
