Nah, maybe you could make an argument they were the best punk band....maybe even that they were the only punk band......but not best rick band; there is so much more to be incorporated into rock.

This is just funny. I wonder, how long before Johnny gets knighted?

Maybe Sid didn't know how to play the bass, but I really like his solo work. The way he sang was so wrong and terrible that it becomes punk because of that. He sings some old rockabilly classics, and puts alot of accent on the raw, dirty, maybe even 'punky' edge rockabilly had.

I still enjoy that album, and Sid Vicous was one of the two reasons why I started playing bass. So did he had an influence on music? For me personal, the answer is yes. God only knows what I would have become without ever hearing him. (probably educated and rich )

i don't think John Lydon would ever accept a knighthood, nor would the Queen be inclined to offer him one.

personally, his other musical venture: "Public Image Ltd.", meant a lot more to me than the Sex Pistols ever did.

On a list of good punk bands, the pistols would not be one.

I make the effort to read all those articles in the paper trying to explain the subculture and for they most part, they are very general and only look at the mainstream bands of the 70's or cookie-cutter, corporate created crap of today.

The main idea in these are articles and the general public (from what I've noticed) is:

1. Sex Pistols
2. Fashion
3. "Rebellious attitude" (like having a mohawk, h)
4. Ramones
5. The Clash

Nothing more, and it's usually wrong. What I know of the subculture is much more sophisticated, educated, and politically aware (although I do enjoy the occasional Clash - but they were the only one with some actual political insight. What they have been made into today, however, is sad).

I understand I've gone a bit off subject, but it bothers me sometimes. Now if you were going to ask about a band with some actual substance and positive influence (like Crass, Amebix, Discharge, or Anticimex) than the question would be more appropriate.

heres what i say.

sex pistols are nothing compared to the misfits when it comes to influencing the musical world.

seriously, ask punks and metalheads and rockers and all that.. the misfits have had a monsterous(pun) widespread influence that daunts the sex influence on the isolated anarcho punk scene. the misfits also gave an amazing template for the hardcore scene in the days of glen danzig. i would put money down that if you polled 1000 punks, 60-70% would say that they love misfits, and probably only 40-50% would say they love sex pistols.

You could probably say that about many of the great US punk bands eg The DKs
