Although I really have no basis for comparison, as I am not familiar with Albert Ayler's music, I look forward to listening to it. I will talk to you on the otherside of the album.

Here is a good tip, don't assume anything about Satchmo.

I've had that since April. It's a good recording, but it's no Spirtual Unity.

Spirtual Unity is on par with the Hot Fives & Sevens, Kind of Blue, A Love Supreme, etc...

There are a lot of excellent recordings out there, but we are talking landmark masterpiece, when discussing Spirtual Unity.

So, breaking out the rarely used

Run, don't walk to pick up Ayler's Spirtual Unity. Except no substitutes!

YO!

Here is the infamous John Zorn thread. It was started by Grasshoppa Roivas over a year ago now.

I won't ruin how the Roivas/Zorn saga ends.

Anthony Braxton

For Dave Holland, I really prefer him as a sideman than as a leader; however, his best as a leader are

Conference of Birds
Prime Directive

Don't get me wrong about Hunter and Gatton, for what they do, which isn't/wasn't Jazz, it was good. Hunter can groove and I like what he does, but I am not going to go out of my way to see him live again.

I dig.

I'm with you on the Holland thing. He just plays so much better when he gets to relax and not worry about runnin' the show. Although, I guess that's true about a lot of people.

I didn't think that Ribot's tribute would match up. So few things ever do. I've listened to the Ribot CD and. . .
. . .
. . .
. . . I will have to give it another listen. I am having trouble with Free Jazz.

Coltrane's wife has several, but you should enjoy these three

Universal Consciousness
World Galaxy
Journey in Satchidananda

Ashby's best three recordings, as leader.

In a Minor Groove
The Jazz Harpist
Afro-Harping

Parkins is the go to harp player in today's avant/free downtown scene, and can be found on many other's recordings, but as leader

Nightmare Alley (a solo recording)
Isabelle **
Ursa's Door **
Pan-Acousticon **
Mouth=Maul=Betrayer **
Phantom Orchard

** a few of her sisters are also involved.

I would have to check to make sure; however, I don't believe she has recorded anything with her cousin Andrea Parkins.

Holy Crap!!!!
Afro-Harping rocks!!!

I can't wait to get more harp. Has anyone ever done a midi-controller or an electric version of a harp? Slap some pick-ups on that bastard!

I also have Parkins', "Mouth=Maul=Betrayer," on the way.

Satchmo being Satchmo foresaw this question.

Parkins plays an electric harp as well, on her recordings.
