I personally use my main database, which is between my ears; however, to make it easy for members of the horde and peons, I use a pretty elaborate program, which I had created.

It can be accessed from anywhere in the world, thus cutting down on duplication, as well keeping track of where exactly a particular record is located. I am sure, it will eventually come in handy when the neurons start misfiring.

This should work for you, and it's free.

You mean, instead of all the other threads, which Jazz is discussed?

How about music that jazz listeners listen to when they are not listening to jazz?

uhm...that's very broad. I mean every jazz listener is different, I listen to all sorts of music, and I guess most of us do.

There is also the issue, it would not have anything to do with the subject of the thread, which last I looked was either Modern Jazz or Peter Frampton.

How about this, have you even heard of any of those musicians I mentioned in my response to your challange? All of whom will still be remembered, when people will be going Hunter? Gatton? While I am at it, Albert Ayler mean anything to you? Someone who was not only Modern Jazz but old school Gospel, as well.

Ass far as I'm concerned frampton and jazz don't go hand in hand, or I must have been totally misinformed!

And RM's Jazz Moderator has spoken, so let it be written.

The people I know right off hand are:

Cecil Taylor - Unit Structures
Anthony Braxton - 3 Compositions of New Jazz
Sam Rivers
Barry Guy
John Zorn - I haven't jumped into his catalog yet. Maybe I can get some pointers on this one.
Greg Osby - Banned in New York, Invisible Hand
Fred Hersh
Keith Jarret - Love this guy. Although I like how he gets into the music the grunts sometimes can be a little distracting.
Dave Holland - What Goes Around - Freakin' killer bass player! I not a big Pat Metheny fan, but Holland sounds so good on, "Question and Answer." I love the way Roy Haynes drum set sounds like it's in the room with you.

I really don’t think that the names will be lost. Only time will be able to answer these sorts of questions. I think that their material will live on. It will find its way into the right hands. The music always does. It fell into mine. With Gatton, I can see that his direction didn’t head into any one genre, and most of his material would not be considered Jazz. I think that his talent as a player could have sent him anywhere, to play with anyone. Had he not whacked himself. With Hunter, I realize that he is more groove then bebop, but that’s not a bad thing. As a bass player I live in the groove. It really is one of my soul interests in music. I think that his music does go places and the different groups that he uses shows his ability to fit into any situation. What stuff have you heard from these cats? I am listening to the Natty Dread album I spoke of earlier and it sounds just as legit as John Scofield, Larry Coryell, Pat Martino, or Mike Stern.

Speaking of. . . I just picked up Marc Ribot's new album (May 3rd, 2005) entitled, "Spirtual Unity." It's Roy Campbell, Henry Grimes, Marc Ribot, and Chad Taylor. On the insert it talks about how the group tried to re-create the collective musical process of Albert Ayler. I haven't listened to it yet. Although I really have no basis for comparison, as I am not familiar with Albert Ayler's music, I look forward to listening to it. I will talk to you on the otherside of the album.
