I haven't been into music as much in the last couple of years but here goes my list. In no particular order
-Chavez now defunct noisy guitars bordering anarchy, melodic vocals
-Railroad Jerk
-R.L. Burnside more blues but put out by Jon Spencer Blues explosion. John Lee hooker type riffs over beats cool.
-Modest Mouse, this is how far back I am in buying Cds I just bought there last CD
-Flaming Lips, indie? yeah, I guess, as much as modest mouse anyways.
-Chad Van Galeen- Calgary band now on sub pop
-Hayden-Canadian cool stuff on the tres lounge soundtrack
-Karate-Older tracks the schwin and small fires are my faves
-The Pixies
-bright eyes
-Arcade fire

Some ones I like that haven't been mentioned yet (I think)

Death From Above 1979
Wolf Parade
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!
The Rapture
Ugly Casanova
The Unicorns
Deerhoof
Olivia Tremor Control
Of Montreal
Sun Kil Moon

I'm surprised that some of these haven't been mentioned!
Some really fabulous stuff in there.
I tried to organize it as hardest to softest, in case that matters to anyone.

I like DFA1979, Deerhoof & the Rapture, the other ones I don't like at all (CYHSY) or just don't know well enough, but Olivia Tremor Control for example is Neutral Milk Hotel related I believe and that can't be a good thing

They're more like Of Montreal than Neutral Milk Hotel.
Though Jeff Mangum does occasionally sing with them.

Also, earlier, I wasn't saying you didn't like NMH for the "I love you Jesus" song, I was just making a connection.
And if you don't like his voice, you should listen to the song Communists Daughter by NMH. I think you might actually like it compared to the other stuff.

maybe but thinking of "Oh Comely" is enough to make me not want to do that
anyway, maybe I'd find them not that bad if I'd listened to them closely for a week, but really there's already so much that I'd really like to hear, so I won't bother I think...

You should listen to Communist Daughter.
For me!
Psst I'll IM it to you if you have AIM. Totally legal of course, I would never do anything that wasn't legal.

Also, so funny, Oh Comely is my favorite song on the CD.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh I can't possibly understand that! his voice in that songs is soooo annoying! and naming a song "oh comely" and then starting it with a lamenting "ooooh come-ly" seems a bit stupid to me (although that may seem weird)

and I don't have aim anyway
