Hmmm... depends what youre kinda view on prog is... but these are my take on it:

Frank Zappa
Mr. Bungle and related bands (Naked City, Boud Deun etc)
Dillinger Escape Plan (behind the grindcore... alot of jazz, tripped out parts etc)
Melvins

Though all of it (apart from Frank Zappa) is modern... but yeah... and not thorough bred...

Saying Mr. Bungle needs more attention in a prog. forum is like jim coyler saying that he likes shania twain.... damn, that made no sense

This is my chance to say Jethro`s Stand Up is 3X better than Aqualung. I allways see Aqualung and Think As A Brick mentioned first.

Boo!

I guess if you're more a fan of Blues-Rock than Prog-Rock, one might say that, but personally, "Thick As A Brick" is 3x better than "Aqualung".

hmmm i'm guessing you haven't run a search on any of those bands within the forum because they've ALL been rightfully praised in the past.

That doesn`t really conflict with my statement, does it?

Here, here! My favorite 3 Tull albums are the first 3 they did. I really don't consider them a "prog" artist, though.

The only stuff by them I even consider prog would be Thick and Passion Play. Aside from those albums, they indeed had the occasional progressive piece.

When I listen to Ian Anderson's fluet playing and Jethro Tull, it makes me want to go the source and break out with Rahsaan Roland Kirk.

I was listening to some Capton Beyond and Whitewitch. These bands seem obscure to me, but how obscure are they really? I don't know that many people that listen to older prog. stuff.
