The White Stripes – Get Behind Me Satan

ALBUM REVIEW
THE WHITE STRIPES – GET BEHIND ME SATAN
[V2]

If, from judging by the similarly styled cover art or the Prince-on-speed first single, “Blue Orchid, you were assuming that the latest from The White Stripes was going to simply be a replay sequel of 2003’s Elephant, you were mistaken. Get Behind Me Satan sees The Stripes pushing the envelope further than ever before.

Jack puts down the electric guitar on all but four or Satan’s thirteen tracks, choosing to rely mostly on piano, acoustic guitar and his most evocative vocal performance to date. Also brought to the fore is the stunning performance from partner Meg who, with her lead weight drumming and affecting use of various other percussion instruments, proves how integral a part of The Stripes’ sound she is.

Combined with another brilliant batch of lyrics, Jack White has reasserted himself as one of the greatest songwriters of his time with this, the weirdest and perhaps best White Stripes album yet.

5/5

Only listened to it once so far, but I like it, 9/10. It'll probably get even better with further listening.

Over-rated? No fuc*'n way. I believe The White Stripes don't get enough due. They are without a doubt the best blues modern rock outfit in music today. They constantly remind me of Zepplin, The Stones, and other great blues rock groups of the past. I really wish more people of my generation (30 somethings) listened to them, instead of classic rock. Every album they've realeased has been almost perfect. I can't wait to get the new album, I've liked a few of the piano tracks I've heard. I'm glad they decided to try a new route, and develop more musically.

Actually, it would be nice to see more thirty-somethings not listening to classic rock at all. There's just too much music out there for so many people in and around my age to have given up and raided their parents' closet to the extent that they seem to be doing. I don't have an issue with the "classic rock" itself, but rather that mindset.

I don't consider myself a big Stripes fan, but I do quite like what I have heard. I will certainly give the new album a try

I agree completely.

why the hell does "im lonely" sound just like a mix between sabbaths 'changes' and 'amazing grace'?

edit: no, not amazing grace...damnit whats the songs name again
edit2: its some song from "the wall" that resembles the singing in the beginning of 'im lonely'

So...listening to the White Stripes is good, because they sound like classic rock bands, but listening to actual classic rock should be discouraged? Interesting…

I like some White Stripes music, even if they're full of shit as human beings and artists...although, personally, I find myself enjoying the Black Keys a hell of a lot more.
