Oasis – Don’t Believe The Truth

ALBUM REVIEW
OASIS – DON’T BELIEVE THE TRUTH
[EPIC]

As much as they’d like you not to believe it, the truth is that Oasis is long past their peak. Since the sun set on the summer of Brit-Pop in ‘96, they’ve never quite managed to recapture that Morning Glory.

That said, Oasis can still put together a pretty good album with some pretty great tracks. First single, “Lyla, is a powerhouse and an immediate Oasis classic. Noel takes one part Velvet Underground and two parts Bob Dylan for the stomper “Mucky Fingers. The band overcomes some of the lamest song titles of all-time to make good tunes of “The Importance of Being Idle, “The Meaning of Soul and “Guess God Thinks I’m Abel. “Part of the Queue is like nothing they’ve ever done and “Love Like a Bomb is one of Liam’s best impressions of Ian Brown yet.

While Don’t Believe the Truth is not the return to form many were hoping for, it’s still another solid Oasis album and more than a good enough excuse to bring one of the best live acts in the world back out on the road.

3/5

idont know why you havnt "got" Oasis as yet- their singles are for the most part amazing so that should be enough for anyone to be spurred on- but if you want some non-single suggestions, heres a few:

Columbia [Definitely Maybe]
Cast No Shadow [(What's The Story) Morning Glory?]
My Big Mouth [Be Here Now]
Gas Panic! [Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants]
Better Man [Heathen Chemistry]
Part of the Queue [Don't Believe The Truth]
Acquiesce [Morning Glory era b-side]

That is the nice thing about Oasis. If you don't like what you hear on the radio, you just saved $15-20.

Part of the queue sounds just like Golden Brown by The Stranglers...

In the end, what we have are these little, great moments. They come and they go. That's as good as it gets. But, still, isn't that great?
