it doesn't work that way...

once the song is pressed it becomes one track regardless of how many tracks went into it... you can't just chop out one aspect of it without modifying the entire track... the only way to remove the voice is to have access to the original recordings...

i mean the original master recordings... as in the ones made in the studio for each instrument... separately...

think of it like this... have you ever seen the booklet to tool's lateralus... where you have multiple image layers on transparent backgrounds... each image exists as itself but when you combine them it provides a much fuller image...

now think of that in terms of a song... each image layer would be an instrument and the final song would be the full image... BUT the final 'image' of the song is flattened out and compressed into one entity... you can't go back and just remove one layer... unless you have access to the original studio recordings...

sorry if i wasn't that clear the first time... i can't believe how many times i've actually had to answer this...

jag,

there are plenty of programs out there that can easily remove certain instrument and vocal frequncies from MP3s or any other sound type.

I sometimes manually edit them with an equalizer with Sound Forge (which costs a lost). There are some shareware programs out there that can do the same thing like "Transcribe!" and "GoldWave." There is also another one out called "Karaoke Maker" and "DeComposer," but those cost around $40, or $100 in a pack with another program.

I use this a lot to write tabs for songs, or just to learn certain solos so I can play them along with my friends. Search for these programs on Google or Yahoo and you are definately going to turn something up. Have fun.
