Drum Appreciation

Hey guys, last night i got kinda blazed and was listening to some metal and was really amazed by the percussion in some of the songs I was listening to.

I want to learn how to appreciate great drumming more.

What are things to listen for? What are some great examples of awesome drumming?
Who are some awesome drummers? Metal drummers?

Help me out, thanks!

Well, I can't tell you what to look for for awesome drumming so here's some recommendations:
John Bonham
Dave Lombardo
Steve Asheim
Deen Castronovo
Pete Scandoval
Paul Mazurkiewicz

You can never forget all the old school artists, back when whole bands were lead strictly by teh drums. Like Buddy Rich and so forth.
