Dr Dre
hey I just was in a thread for Jay-Z, kinda wut everyone thinks about him, how he compares to others, so lets hear what you all have to say about good ol' Dr. Dre.
In my opinion, hes the greatest rapper still alive, and if you wanna diss on someone, hes the man NOT to diss on. In so many of his songs, and others' songs, he totally lyrically whoops ass and takes names. I love Dre's Style, beats, and most of the people he has signed. Like he says it, he is the pioneer of Rap, hes been doing it for 21 years, can you tell me of another person who has done that? if u can i wanna know and ill listen to his s***. anyway, wut do you all think of the "Father of Rap", Dr. D.R.E.?

Being an aspiring producer i look up to Dre a lot for his genius however recently, i think he has fell off a little. Altough, selling millions with Eminem and G-Unit...good record sales does not always mean good music. Ah, food for thought.

agreed on the tupac part sw2dafullest, but i do respect Dre, not only for his beats, but because like he says in 2001 "the Watcher": "N**** we started this Gangsta Sh*t, and this the mutha F***in' thanks I get?". thats true, alright I can understand you guys when you say you dont like dre's newer stuff, but what about NWA??
And "dre fell off"?? like he said in "Sh*t hits the fan" : "I'm laughin all the way to the bank Watchin the satellite from a Bentley". He may have not put out any cd's since Chronic 2001, but he shows up on others' albums. I dont know about you guys, but I am really looking forward to detox, suposedly coming out later this year or early next year. I doubt that it will be a dissapointment.
Even if you dont like dre's new stuff, you have to respect him just for the amount of power and influence he has had, and still has, in the world of rap and hip hop.

I respect him as a producer.
Where you got the idea that he was a great rapper is beyond me.

hmmm you might want to research your facts a little more 21 years ago was 1984. the first commercially successful rapper was kurtis blow. he started out in 1976-77, eight years before dre. grandmaster flash hit the scene in '77 with collaborations with blow and then the furious five. run DMC and public enemy both stepped up in '82.
and while they may have started as a hardcore punk rock group in '79 the beastie boys did hook up with rick rubin and started rapping back in '84 (and they're still rapping today 21 years later)
this isn't to say that dr. dre is not an iconic figure within the rap world. he most definitiely is, but to call him the pioneer is just wrong.

Man Dre wasn't doing shit in 84. NWA's debut album was in 89 and Dre's solo album wasn't till like 92 or something.
Besides that, Dre wasn't even the best rapper in NWA. He was there for his production.
Cube > Dre on the mic anyday.

thnx .^. or wutever ur name is. and i do think that ice cube is an awsome rapper, but dres the best alive, and yeah, in my opinion, better than ice cube. the best in NWA, no doubt in me, was Eazy-e.
And panbient, sure there were rappers older and who outlive dr dre, but none of them have become nearly as big in the hip hop world today. and whether or not you like his music, he did pioneer and change rap from its old-school stuff.
Viktor vaughn, jsut to point out a mistake...you said NWA came out in 89'? nope, Straight Outta Compton came out in 1988.
Anyway, in my opinion, this IS the millenium of Aftermath

My bad.. off by one year. Not bad considering I didn't look that shit up.
Best in NWA is Eazy? That shit's laughable. Cube ghostwrote Eazy's shit! Why do you pick all the rappers that can't even write for themselves and say they are the best?
