i'm not saying his music is bad or that his influence is unfounded. but this is like saying that jimi hendrix pioneered the electric guitar while conveniently forgetting about people like chuck berry before him.

shit i'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the attention dre gets is directly related to his first album and to a lesser extent snoop dogg's first album. the only reason anyone but really hardcore rap fans had heard of NWA back in the day was because of the notoriety surrounding 'fuck tha police'. otherwise they were no names to the masses until the early nineties when the chronic and doggystyle got the suburban kids wondering where all that funky shit came from.

Valid comments definately. Personally, Dre dosen't really come close to being the greatest rapper ever, however like someone said, his influence on mainstream Rap is absoloutely immense.

As a producer he's as good as they get, not as a rapper though.

Someone in the Rap forum who speaks English

As for my thoughts on Dr. Dre, I have to agree that he is not anywhere near the greatest rapper ever. However, I do enjoy some tracks from "The Chronic" on occassion, and he is responsible for a great deal of today's mainstream rap so I have plenty of respect for the man (although I am not really a fan of his proteges).

Clumsy rapper, awesome mainstream producer.
