Autechre question

hi,
I just was wondering which album might be a good starting point to get into Autechre - especially considering that I'm basicly into rather Industrial-type electronica, like Download, Doubting Thomas and all the other cEvin Key/Dwayne Goettel stuff

thanks,

I don't know much about autechre, but I know Confield is the one you may want to stay away from. it is very un-user-friendly and disorienting. I don't like it as much as the Peel Session I have even though I appreciate them taking their style to a whole different place.

by the way, what do you think about the new Skinny Puppy materials? I am a puppy fan too.

I started out with tri repetae, it`s one of my best electronic albums. I haven`t heard any other albums I like as much from them (Amber is nice though)..... so I recomend that one, but then I`m not very into industrial electronica.

Cheers,
Haakon

i've got confield... and i'll agree it's not the most user friendly disc in my collection... tri repatae is FANTASTIC... but you also mention favoring the more industrial side of electronic music... tri repatae is more ambient and comparable to aphex twin's selected ambient works 1 album... but from what i've read about the bands and people you list i don't really know what autechre album you'd enjoy most... confield may not be so bad to your ears...

i'd say try downloading a few tracks first before buying an album or try finding a store that lets you listen before you buy...

I forgot I also have a short player, Peel Session 13/10/95 . It has one nutt track, Drane, which I`m listening to now. That must be a peek performance or something, anyone that like tri repetae should at least check it out..... listen on stereo with huge bass

ok, thanks to everybody. I think I really start downloading some of the tracks first...

and @Evilmatik: I'm rather "conservative" when it comes to Skinny Puppy I don't really like any of the post-Goettel stuff too much, even including The Process.

oh come on, Skinny Puppy is great! The Process is definitely not my favorite album. My all time favorite album is Too Dark Park. I always get really hyped up when I listen to it. My wife's favorite album is Rabid. but I think some songs on that album sound a bit thin.

I like Download too, but I only have the first album and the promo of Side Winder so far. not sure if I should get Charlie's Family, do you have that? have you seen that movie yet?

back to autechre, I have seen the videos in Gantz Graf. they are pretty cool. one video was directed by Chris Cunningham. it may be a good start because it has a CD and a DVD for about 15 bucks. not a bad deal.

yeah, I really love the older Skinny Puppy albums, especially Too Dark Park and Vivisect VI. I just don’t like the newer stuff that much..

concerning Download: if you like the Sidewinder EP, you definitely should consider The Eyes of Stanley Pain and III. Eyes of Stanley Pain is by far my favorite album in the rather large cEvin Key opus. Charlie’s Family is IMO a rather difficult album. It’s far more noisy and less coherent than the other Download-albums. Granted, I haven’t seen the movie, but I don’t think it comes even close to the other albums.

Charlie's Family probably will be more coherent and make more sense if you listen to that with the movie. more noisy... sounds good to me.

you know, after getting into skinny puppy, I couldn't get into a lot of other industrial bands. I like some songs here and there, but nothing is as enjoyable for me as SP.

I tried to get into autechre a while a go and kinda gave up cause they have so many albums to choose from. and Confield kinda turned me off a bit. but since I got soulseek, I will try to get more of their tracks before I head to the CD stores.

my recent favorite is Hecate and Venetian Snares. u know, breakcore stuff.

I think LP5 and Tri Repetae are the 2 best...
