Recommendations?

Hey everyone....

I was wondering if I can get some recommendations on some music....

Bands I currently enjoy
Franz Fernidad
The Killers
Nickelback
Tool - More of their less hard sonds/ lyricals like eulogy, stinkfist
Modest Mouse
Weezer
Greenday
The Arcade Fire
Liked some of the stuff from linkin park
System of a Down

Most of these are main stream, I want to try to get into some of the less common bands too... Everything is good. I just heard a song from Apex Theory and liked it.

Thanks.

well first of all, you have to jetison that linkin park. honestly, im not kidding. its like nuclear waste, not only do you want to distance yourself from it, but if it gets on you people will distance themselves from you. and ditto with nickelback. thems virulent shit.

now, if groove to the funky fey english drummers of franz and the killers, then you should buy the second public image ltd. album. im not even that sure if there is a strong connection between those bands actually. its just that their 2nd LP is pretty much the pinnacle of british rock, and, um, you should own it.

if you like weezer and greenday because they are poppy dorks, the you should check out some of those seude-porting pop whiteboys of the 80's, chief among them the feelies. if you like them because they are the sweet salve to your raw teenage angst, then buy like nirvana or someshit. grow up! just kidding of course.

System of a Down covered a song called "Speak English or Die" by the punk metal band SOD. You might like them. Franz Ferdinand name Joy Division and Wire as influences (although I don't see much of a resemblence). Anyway, here are some others you may or may not like -
Bauhaus
Television
Sonic Youth
The Velvet Underground
Talking Heads
David Bowie
Helmet
Kyuss
Melvins
Neurosis
Ween
Devo
The Pixies
Black Flag
Husker Du
Merzbow

Gang of Four is an evident influence on FF, although basing myself on their best of album, their back catalogue seems rather spotty, some good songs mixed with some quite patchy ones...
some others:
Millionaire
eels
Manic Street Preachers (The Holy Bible)
Monster Magnet
Mission of Burma
The Smiths
Belle & Sebastian

the Walkmen's first cd is very nice, the one from BSP was rather good too, though a bit samey maybe, what I've heard of the Futureheads ("Robot") is enjoyable and Bloc Party is one of those bands I don't get... The Arcade Fire is another one, for that matter

For something that I think is pretty similar to Franz Ferdinand, try a not-so-well-known early 80's band called Josef K. For the Killers, maybe try some Joy Division or New Order. Most of Geryon's suggestions would be sound investments. Of course, if you like Green Day, and haven't tried out the Ramones, Sex Pistols, or early Clash, I suggest you do so.

Kyuss rocks...they were hot in the early 90's...

...also try Death From Above 1979 for something current...
