What do you feel was the definitive San Francisco Band from the 60's.

My choice is Quicksilver Messenger Service.

My favorites are Jefferson Airplane, GD, and Quicksilver Messenger Service. I don't know which to vote for yet.

The Grateful Dead were the longest, most consistent, and the most legendary. On top of all that, their music is just awesome. I vote for them.

Jefferson Airplane. Big Brother and the Holding Company I would put next, then Santana.

It's a Beautiful Day have one great song ("White Bird", which is stupefyingly good) and I don't have much to say about the rest of the bands there...

I'm feeling kinda Fishy.

Agreed. Either the dead or Jefferson Airplane.

I may be mistaken, but wasn't Butterfields Bluesband, primarily based on the east-coast?

Quicksilver for me... But the Airplane is a close second... I really dig the S.F. scene...

Also, Moby Grape was worthy of being on the list as well... I feel they should at least get a mention...
