Butterfield Blues Band came out of Chicago, but the reason I included them in the poll was because they played many of their gigs around the bay area, Winterland, Fillmore etc. and I guess you could call them an adopted San Fran Band.

After I made up the poll and posted it I hit my self on the head and said you idiot you forgot Moby Grape. I didn't know if I could edit a poll so I left it alone. I had a feeling you would pick up on it, Syd.

I'll go ahead and add them in the poll... I don't like just adding stuff without consent of the thread creator... We mods have "the power" and we should be very careful how we use it...

Quicksilver Messenger Service was the most "definitive" group to my ears - the sound and the spirit. Santana also carries a lot of San Fran energy / synergy (not that the other mentioned groups don't) and I found myself wanting to toss him a vote, but Quicksilver gets the nod here.

I'd have to go with the Greatful Dead, I'd say they're the band most associated with San Francisco. I was just in San Francisco recently and there's a whole museum type place dedicated to the band. I think there is one dedicated to Janis Joplin too.

Country Joe & The Fish. They created some of the best psychedelic music i've ever heard. Way ahead of Jefferson Airplane or The Quicksilver Messenger, imo.

I went with Santana, mostly because i figured no one else had yet. But it was a toss up between the Dead and Carlos and friends.

I really like Country Joe but I wouldn't put them in the same class as the Airplane or Quicksilver... Although the original EP version of "Section 43" is among my very favorite psychedelic songs of all time...
