I think the 90's (and "grunge") gave alternative some muscle. I've never seen R.E.M. grinding a guitar on a monitor during a concert, I didn't see that until Billy Corgan did that.

people always shit all over the 1980's. what gives man? look at all the great bands, well as long as you are willing to overlook the pet shop boys and the smiths.

Easy decision for me, the 60's. Yeah, every decade has their moments, although I pretty much hate the 70's excluding Queen. I think the 60's had such catchy, soulful music, with great singers and good clean subject matter. Although, maybe I just like the 60's so much because I'm a hopeless romantic and the majority (at least what I've heard) are love related songs. The 60's also spawned The Sonics, whom I beleive were the first punk band. Pasty Cline was partially active during the 60's so bonus points for that as well.

If I could, I would've said about 1966-1976, but I liked that four years of the sixties quite a bit, so 60's for me

Im sure if 66-76 was an option it would have one by a landslide.

Wish I could vote here and tie this thing up. It's all about the 70s. After that I would pick 90s, then 60s, then 80s, then this decade.

Only the 60's had Coltrane so that's where I must vote. After the 60's I'd go for the 40's JazzFH mentioned Big Band, man, I was thinking BeBop.
