Thumbs up Whatever Happened to Rock N' Roll?

Is it me or is music in a diabolical state at the moment, bands kicking up a fuss and genrally meaning something whilst being highly origional dissappeared with cobains head. Where are the MC5's, Sex Pistols, Public Enemy's and Nirvanas of this generation?

They work in a different field. Atari Teenage Riot, for instance.

The only band I've seen in the last few years with main-stream success that is a true rock band are the White Stripes.

I think Jack could save Rock and Roll.

Nothing needs to be saved. There are plenty of good rock/metal/ alternative bands out today. Saying Rock n' Roll is a very cliched and ignorant statement.

agreed. there are many good rock bands out there, its just that just as many get shoved down your throat by the radio corporations who pump out the generic stuff.

Before I joined music forums, I thought that all the music had gone to shit, too.

I would have to agree with you that to some extent, the majority of the music quality as compared to the 60's-70's era is not as good...

but theres DEFINATELY a ton of music out there if you look for it (which is not very easy sometimes).

If you are looking for rock'n'roll greats nowadays, chances are you aren't going to find many. Rock'n'roll has evolved itself into many new genres of drum/guitar/bass instrumentalization (is that a word ?).

Maybe you could tell us what type of music you're lookin for and we can make some suggestions to help you find the "greats".

Nothing happened. It got a little more diverse and in some cases better.

Sorry, but while I really enjoy MC5 and the spirit of the Sex Pistols (Public Enemy not so much) they're not exactly what I'd use as examples of great.

As others have commented before, it's just a lot harder to find these days since radio and music television tends to shove mostly mindless drivel down your throat.

I think right now is the best music scene has been for decades, in the UK at least. I only need to go to the record shop and im virtually assaulted by new bands.
