Are you asking about one composition, which lasts longer than 2hrs or recordings over 2hrs?

For Philip Guston is around 4hours long, and String Quartets II can last 6 hours.

If you want recordings, there is the 4cd All Piano by John Tilbury, which are Feldman's solo piano compositions.

all I have of his are pieces under 30 min, but In know he is famous for long pieces (2 hours and over, even as long as 6 hours)

but before I go and spend 50 dollers on a 6 hour piece I want to get some 'recommendations'

My sister already mentioned two of his longest compositions. The third, which is 3 hours, is For Christian Wolff.

I don't know if they are in print or not but the label Hat Hut, released a recording of each of the 3 compositions.

On String Quartets II, there is a lot of space involved. You can have one sheet of music, last several minutes.

Edit: On Tilbury's Feldman recording "All Piano" the last two discs have one long composition on each disc. They are called "Triadic Memories" and "For Bunita Marcus". For Bunita Marcus is the shorter of the two, at around 77 minutes. The other one is close to 80 minutes long.

I hate to admit that it took me this long, but I just got my first Morton Feldman last night - Rothko Chapel. I listened to it this morning, and I think it's absolutely splendid. I even called my music teacher at his studio to tell him. He didn't pick up the phone, but I left a message saying "MR. ____ MORTON FELDMAN IS SOOOOO GOOD". I will be sure to get LOADS of this man's work. Does anyone want to recommend me some more pieces by him (in addition to the ones mentioned in this thread) ?

Interesting looking fella, no?

Also got Durations I-V, Coptic Light. I'm really loving this stuff. What of his work with John Cage should I get?

well if you only have pieces under 30 minutes, i'd say go for "piano and string quartet" and "string quartet II". i like the flux version of the string quartet a bit more than the ives version.

this was for freejazzlove

As the kids mentioned....the Hat Arts would be the ones to get. I believe, you can still buy them at Other Music or Downtown Music Gallery.

You can probably also find All Piano at one of those, as well.

If you don't know either, let me know and I will send you the links.
