Some Kind of Monster
truth be told, i don't know were to place this thread, so i'll just drop it here, and if any mods sees fit to move it, pleace inform so we can continue in the new location.
Well, the theme, Some Kind of Monster, Metallica's Documentary.
I saw it yestarday, rented the dvd. It's actually kinda cool, I LOVE music documentaries, I don't LOVE Metallica, but i understand the commercial significance of The Black Album, I LOVE Kall of ktulu, TTTSNB, Master, and some of their early stuff. I dispise load, exept maybe a couple of songs and i coldy hate RE-LOAD, what the heck?? yeah, next thing we know, GN'R'S new album's called RE-Apetite. But thats not the point, the point is that the documentary was very cool.
For example I didn't know that Dave Mustain Played in metallica, what sucks is that you never get to know why is it exactly that lars kicked him out of the band, and Mustain is a tad overeactive, okey, yeah they kicked him out of the band, but from there to saying that "everything metallica touched turn to gold, and everything I (mustain) did backfired on me" i think theres a long long way. For example, here in Argentina Metallica is hated, becaused the y suspended a SOLD-OUT show because of "phisical and psicological" tiredness. There's even a song called "Metallica te Cago" (Something in the lines of "Metallica F**kED you"), and ST. Anger wasn't very well recived. (Funny fact, I saw today a guy with a ST. Anger t-shirt, on the back were the band members, guess who was there, mister Jason-he's already out of the band you stupid t-shirt makers!- nEWSTEND). Well, Megadeath's new album, was well recived, and people here are starting to like megadeath more than metallica, megadeath even came and played.
Also, Mustain says that Lars turned him into "the most hated man in rock & roll" (a term that Lars later uses to ferer to himself, talking about te napster issue) what's crap??? i don't really know, would someone kindly enough explain?
Another thing, Kirk Hammet is one of the nicest men on earth, he's always trying to smooth things between Lars and James, also he has this twetty voice and this cool attitude, he never complains, he's always focused in the important stuff, the only time he complain's when James says that when he arrives Lars and BOB rock have been already working on the material and he gets there and just does what he's told, and Kirk says "well that's how i've been felling for 20 years now" and he says it so smoothly, so calmly, without adding anythign else. It's cool, because when he says it, he speaks low, so you don't notice what he says until james shuts up and look at him with that "i-so-embarrased" face, shuts the f**k up and leaves. Honestly James Heatfield's a over controlling crying baby. Lars' an angry gnome who's pissed with heatfield ALWAYS! but he has the coolest voices on earth, and hi's father just compleatly out of the picture, like if he comes from another dimension.
What this dvd lacks, is live material, true, this is not a carrer spannig dvd, and there weren't any shows in between the documentary, but still, it would have been cool to have at least a couple of live songs, compleate live songs.
Another thign, the bass casting is funny. Like, why is Jane's Adiction bassist in the try outs (he also bassed for Alanis Morriset, LAME!!!!!!!)???? Then, when they do tryouts with regualr people, the bast bassist to apear is a girl, well woman, well 20- year old female (ho do you call that) It would have been so cool to have metallica on stage with a she-basssist!!!!!!!!!.
Then Trujillo is awsome, never the less, I still prefer Jhon Myung (Dream Theater), he's, in my opinon the best bassist in the world. Well ,i'm drifting, the thign is, Trujillo is a great bassist, adn i realized that he plays it like a CONTRABAJO's the word in spanish, not sure in english, i mean that big, 4 stringed instrument you play vertically, well Trujillo plays vertically, and he look's like a big, ... THING on stage with all that hair, and sweat.
To FINISH, Lars can really play some angry drums, ahhh, and his voice kics ass, and Hamet know how to play very well!, that was news.

Lars didnt kick mustaine out of metallica, james did while he and mustaine were fighting(both drunk) and mustaine punched him in the face so james told him he was out of metallica.

so, nobody else has seen it?
is metallica so dead for you guys?, note that this isn't a critisism, is just that i'm surprised, Seerix, you mean that I'm the only actually watched the movie, or that i really payed attention to the stuff in there, if that's the case, lemme tell you that, it was very late when i started writing, so i wasn't in the mood to talk about other stuff i nthe movie, like, bob rock's precense in the band, and the point where they start saying that he's behaving like his part of the band, or theyre relationship with the shrink.
BSabbath, Mustain himself says that Lars turned him into "the most hated man in rock & roll", so Lars must have sayed something about Mustain.
No one else has something to comment???

You could say that Metallica is essentially past tense for almost everyone here, that's why I was expressing a bit of surprise. It sounds as if you got quite a bit out of that movie, and I think that's great. I myself stopped taking them seriously about 14 years ago.

I watched it and actually enjoyed it. I have seen 'A Year And A Half In The Life Of Metallica' many many times...it documents the making of and touring for The Black Album...and therefor I was rather drawn to Some Kind Of Monster. I definitely see many things differently than you do.
Anyway, the video is interesting that's for sure...I never would have suspected that they'd be getting a shrink and whatnot. They all seem so fragile compared to 15 years ago. I understand how people don't like them now...I'm one of them...I just haven't liked their music for quite a long time but The Black Album and all of the subsequent records were going to happen no matter what. Musicians change and grow and they can't just keep on making THE SAME records over and over.
One thing for sure is that if Mustaine would have been able to remain in the band the guitar playing would have been much better over the years.

I like Megadeth's later stuff and Metallica's earlier stuff, so maybe if they could have swapped names. But considering how pushy Lars and Hetfield appear from what I hear, another point of creativity would have caused alot of tension.
