Greatest Blues Singer
I don't think we've had a thread for this yet. Who do you consider the greatest / your favorite Blues singer?
Given my limited knowledge, my current favorite is Son House; I just love his strong emotional delivery. Obviously, this may change in the future.

Have to think about the men but for the women, I would pick Bessie Smith and Ma Rainey.

You mean, in comparision to Smith and Rainey or if she is a Blues singer? I don't think, she really comes close in comparison to either of those two. I also think, she was more of soul blues and R&B singer, but one of the best.
How about all these?
Memphis Minnie
Lucille Bogan
Ida Cox
Sister Rosetta Tharpe
Sara Martin
Ethel Waters
Victoria Spivey
Sippie Wallace
Susie Edwards
Alberta Hunter
Ella Johnson
Lizzie Miles
Mamie Smith
Bessie Tucker
Martha Copeland
Rosa Henderson
Edna Hicks
Mama Yancey
Rosetta Howard
Eva Taylor
Bessie Jackson

if you'd just use a little more bold and italics and sarcastic remarks, I'd almost say that your father was using your handle...

Well that's your opinion, but he didn't sing the Blues. Hawkins was an R&B and Rock singer, and not someone I would pick personally, for either one. He really is a one hit wonder. Outside of "I Put a Spell on You"; there isn't much else of interest.

He would have just laughed, at the Hawkins post.
It's my oldest brother, who is the most like Pops.

Didn't he have, like, 300 children all with different women or something?
He's probably Arthur Brown's favorite R&B vocalist.
One hit wonders amaze me. How some people can build this legacy from a couple bars of catchy music.
Nothing against Hawkins, of course.

I have no idea. You're going to have to find out on your own, or wait until my Pops feels like posting again.
Unless it's something, which you really have to know. In that case, I will ask him for you.
