and oh yeah with great shame I have to say that I haven't been able to finish watching the film yet... and it might take a while as the owner leaves for Belgium tomorrow
oh and my favourite blues singer (more guitarplayer though) is Robert Johnson (or he's just the one I heard most about)... now let's keep this on topic
I don't know what jennifer lopez has to do with anything, but it seems to me you don't know that much about jay, he had an obsession with the occult, that doesn't mean he made a living off one song, read up blue train, read up...
Billie Holiday was soul. Her music had elements of both R&B and Jazz. Examples of her Bluesy tunes are 'I Got it Bad and That Ain't Good' and 'Don't Talk About Me When I'm Gone'.
Her voice just runs through me in the most annoying way.
I can understand that, she had a very rough voice. But I think that's what made it beautiful. You can hear the troubles she's been through and when she sings strange fruit....man, I just want to cry like a baby...
Cool.
Just the same, it isn't the roughness of her voice that throws me off (Big Mama Thorton had a much huskier voice and I love Big Mama!), there is some element of it that doesn't appeal to me. All in all, she was an immense talent. Great contributor to good music.
