I don't look into lyrics that much at all, although I do appreciate good lyrics(Marillon's Fish, Tom Waits, Paul Simon, Dylan, and others). In folk-based music, it's all too important to have good lyrics, but in most of the music I listen to the lyrics aren't important at all, so long as they aren't so idiotic they stand out (like the cliches metioned at the beginning of the thread, for example).

Listen to some Lisa Gerrard. It will all make sense then

Before I even saw chiva's post i was already making the connection between bad lyrics and simple plan, particularly that song. Interesting...

Yeah, I'm not a huge lyric person for a few reasons. A lot of the time they are hard to hear or understand and Im really bad at remembering lyrics. But then again, I cant stand it when the lyrics are really cliche, so they obviously kind of important. I do appreciate when they are well written, but its not the first thing i look for in a song.

I am a fan of poetry, before I am a fan of music. So that's why lyrics comes down as a divding factor. I guess that is why I cannot stand a lot of rap.

There's a ton of shitty poetry, too, dude. Especially in the contemporary field.
