I think of In Flames right off the bat, although they may have said all they're going to say at around the turn of the century...their music is basically Maiden in low C. Not that I dislike it (I like a fair amount of their stuff to be sure) but that band, to me, is directly descended from Maiden.

I know, but by the time I got down to the "quick reply" part, the post about WASP was there, and I remembered Blackie Lawless in the Decline of Western Civilization...

Britain has the best metal of all time, let sthink of the good British metal bands: Iron Maiden, Sabbath, Judas Preist. As far as I am concerned USA has barely any good metal bands at all. They have a few alright band slike WASP, but overall they can't comapre to Britain for metal. Nu-metal is actually stronger in scandanavia, than in the US. HIM, Nightwish and others are all succusful Nu Metal bands and their from Finland!!

I had forgotten about the crossover bands (even as I've listened to several of them in the last couple of days). Good call.

Nowadays I don't see anything significant coming out of the US, but it had plenty to say in the heyday of metal, and even a little beyond that. Europe seems to be keeping traditional metal alive, and um, yeah, more power to them, I guess.

But while we are sitting here rattling off the great bands from Europe, lets ALSO remember that Luca Turulli is from there (Italy, I believe). Everyone needs to go listen to "The Ancient Forest of Elves", then come back here and report whether or not it is in the US's interest to get back into the whole metal thing.

I've been listening to more and more offshore bands the deeper my metal collection goes.
