First off welcome to RM.

I think a better phrasing would be he was self taught.

In these kind of skill discussions I am always reminded of Aghora... extremely skilled musicians who make music so devoid of soul that it is scary.

[quote=Satchmo8101]Ummmm....none of The Bealtes could read music lot

Ummmm...if you had read my previous post, you would see that I never stated that Ringo could read music. All I'm pointing out is that Ringo had an ear for music.

Also, I think The Beatles would not have been the force they were without all the production and sound equipment. The Beatles changed the way records were recorded. There was so too much overdubbing involved.

My vote, as I have said previously, goes to Yoko Ono. She has absolutely no talent what-so-ever and should not continue to sing. At least Ringo was adequate and isn't insisting that he is 'the greatest'. That came about when Paul sent a postcard to Ringo after the rooftop concert in 1969. Give him a break, he's not all that bad.

Thank you, mpittman. That's exactly what I was trying to get at.

Welcome to the Board.

1. I knew what you meant.

2. I have no idea what overdubbing and multitracking have to do with Ringo's drumming abilities and if he is overrated and/or lucky?

3. Yes, he is adequate....which is why so many pick him for the luckiest musician.

4. While he isn't bad; he's also not who he pretends to be in public to the media. He's nowhere as bad as back when he was an alcholic, but he's not Mr. Friendly, either.

Thank you for the welcome Satchmo

I wasn't referring to Ringo's drumming abilities when I made that statement. I was referring to The Beatles as a whole. Simply put. If it hadn't been for the overdubbing and studio equipment, The Beatles wouldn't have been The Beatles. They owe a lot to that.

Another thing that bothers me is that Ringo could have been so much better if he had formal training. He had potential to be so much better with his impeccable ears.

Also, how can you say he isn't exactly Mr. Friendly? That man was the friendliest, unassuming lad of The Beatles, and by far the funniest.
