I once tried Minor Threat, but thought it was just speedy noise, not my cup of tea at all.

Fugazi is just one of dozens of trendy indie college rock type bands but Minor Threat basically created the blueprint for the guitar and vocal sound of American hardcore punk. Plus, Minor Threat scratches to the core of one's being while Fugazi is like something you'd hear at a frat party.
