And our winner is. . . drum roll, Ringo. Oh, you can't? Never mind then.
"A Day In The Life" took the title by a 14-6 margin.
As much as many of us like to think we prefer the lesser known tracks, those artists overlooked by the ignorant masses, there is still no denying the power and popularity of the Beatles. Any short list of great Beatle tracks would have to include this masterwork of composition and execution. The crowning touch of the Beatles' experimental phase, they pulled back from the edge with their final albums due to personality conflicts and (to be candid) laziness. They'd climbed the mountain on "A Day In The Life" and had no reason to ascend that peak again.

I agree for the most part with Joey's last post except that while "A Day in The Life" was a high point in the Beatles experimental phase, I think Lennon went one step further and reached his zenith (and the Beatles zenith) with I Am The Walrus...
It started with his experiments in Tomorrow Never Knows, then to the master works of Starwberry Fields, Lucy, and A Day in The Life, and then onto the ultimate timeless masterpiece of Walrus (at least that's how I pretty much laid it out in 50 or so pages of my book on the Beatles)...
