Well suppose I didn't get this one and waited til I got a little better to buy an amp, what would be the next step up. Another way of looking at it is what is the next step up from this amp. A 1 foot speaker sounds kinda small, but I don't really know.

well consider this. my old roommate had a 40W peavey (can't remember the specific model) it also only had a single 12" speaker. he used it for everything, jamming in his room, in a practice space, for shows in bars. the ONLY reason he's looking to replace it now is because we broke off the volume knob a while ago and it's stuck on about 6. so it's still loud enough to practice at reasonable volumes (unless your drummer is crazy heavy) but not loud enough to play a gig without being mic-ed into a PA system.

for myself the next step i'd look for in a bass amp after a single 12" would be a single 18" or possibly a small double speaker setup, nothing larger that two 12"s though. in the end it all depends on what you need the amp to do. there's no point in getting a badass amp like that quad 15" deal mentionned earlier if you're not playing steady gigs and packing the place.

it also depends on what style you're going to be playing. if you're going to be doing some mellow jazzy stuff then you won't need as much power as if you were in a hardcore punk band.

hmm thats true about what you were saying. I guess now that I think about it my friends that are really into their insturments play big shows sometimes and have big amps and whatnot as a result.

Well how much would a double speaker setup cost?

I'd get a 100 plus watt Ampeg with a 18 inch for bass. It really needs a bunch more watts than the old guitar from what my dad says. he is a pro.

Well I went over to Sam Ash the other day to go check stuff out. Looked at the Peavy's and saw something that I was expecting but then browsed around a little more and found this: http://www.samash.com/catalog/showit...onetodaythanks for a the same amount of money I got almost 15 more watts out of the Fender amp. Here is the Peavey again: http://www.samash.com/catalog/showit...onetodaythanks

Comments? I do like the way this Fender sounds so I guess thats all it comes down to in the end, but any reasons as to why the Fender would be cheaper then the Peavey?
