New Van Morrison Album

Van the Man has a new album, Magic Time, set for release on May 9. Thirteen new tracks. Here's the listing:
01. STRANDED
02. CELTIC NEW YEAR
03. KEEP MEDIOCRITY AT BAY
04. EVENING TRAIN
05. THIS LOVE OF MINE
06. I'M CONFESSIN
07. JUST LIKE GRETA
08. GYPSY IN MY SOUL
09. LONELY AND BLUE
10. THE LION THIS TIME
11. MAGIC TIME
12. THEY SOLD ME OUT
13. CARRY ON REGARDLESS

He kicked off his European tour on April 5. A couple shows on the tour are already sold out. You lucky European bastards are getting the best of it. There are apparantly no dates yet set - or at least not announced - for North America, and it doesn't seem likely that Van will do much in Asia. Though I'd give my left eye to have Van come to Seoul...

Here's something from a press release:

'You can call it nostalgia, I don't mind, standing on that windswept hillside, listening to the church bells chime in that magic time.'

Magic Time is the new album from Van Morrison set for release in May 2005. Produced by Van Morrison Magic Time is released on his own Exile Music Recordings record label through Polydor Records in the UK and Geffen for North America. The album contains thirteen songs - ten original Van Morrison compositions and three classic interpretations of the jazz standards, "I'm Confessin", "This Love Of Mine" and "Lonely And Blue".

Magic Time is the first release from Van Morrison since What's Wrong With This Picture? in 2003 and marks the 40th anniversary of his first hits with his then band Them.

With songs such as "Stranded", the title track "Magic Time", "Celtic New Year" and "Gypsy In My Soul" Van Morrison has created some of his most powerful songs to date, with every emotion seemingly having its place within the fabric of what many will view as one of his most important albums of the past twenty years.

You've never heard of Van Morrison? Jesus. Do an online search to find out about him, one of the greatest artists of the past 40 years. He's been virtually an 'underground' artist since 1970, as he is an avid hater of the business. Albums: Astral Weeks, Moondance, It's Too Late To Stop Now (live), Veedon Fleece, Hard Nose the Highway, Common One, Poetic Champions Compose, The Healing Game, and about 20 or so more. Well known songs: 'Brown Eyed Girl', 'Moondance', 'Into the Mystic', 'Caravan', 'Bright Side of the Road', 'Show Business', 'Warm Love'.

I dunno...I lost interest in him years and years ago.

Moondance and Tupelo Honey are great albums, though.

Van's great. I need a few more of his more essential albums before I need to worry about new releases, but love his style. He definitely deserves more recognition on these boards.
