Obscure alternative gems
Stealing the idea from the prog/psych section, what are some of your favourite alternative pop & rock songs that nobody knows about?
I'll post some of mine later...

to run the risk of "I don't really call that altenative"-itis
what first springs to mind is a lovely song by Penelope Houston called "Qualities of Mercy"
from... oh I don't know... late 70's early 80's?
She was in this band The Avengers and her solo stuff sounded like the sort of thing Aimee Mann has ended up doing. Really pretty and moving stuff.

Hmm, I have no idea what you guys would call obscure, but maybe something by Olivia Tremor Control.
Also 'The Man Don't Give A F*ck' by Super Furry Animals, okay they're well known, but this is a B-Side, and their finest track to date.

Is that the one where they sample Steely Dan's "Showbiz Kids"?
I think I have that on the extra cd that came with my copy of Radiator.
Top track!!!

anyone else heard Roommate's "R.P. (Forget the Metaphors)"?
I'm not sure if he released anything else besides that song (yet), but I have it on a compilation of a local radio show and it's really great, it's a sort of goofy, but touching, piano song about River Phoenix, namechecking all the stars related to Phoenix...
