Beck
does anyone here consider Beck to be at least a part-time MC? what do fans of rap and hiphop think of Mr. Hansen?

I like some rap but not enough to gauge Herr Hansen in that regard.
Personally, I like him better as he moves away from that stuff.
It's good though, and it made some tracks really stand out.
I'd like to hear some more steel guitar myself.

Thinking of Beck in the context of one musical idiom, or focusing on one element of his sound, seems to me to take away from the entire point and effect of his music, but maybe that's just me.

im not asking that- im asking what someone from the perspective of being a rap/hiphop fan [which iam not] thinks of Beck as he does significantly tap into rap/hiphop influences in his work. does Beck cross-over into rap at all like Outkast does into rock? what do fans of rap/hiphop think of Beck?- thats what im asking.

All right, I understand now.
I enjoy hip-hop and rap, but I'm not interested in the genre exclusively, nor am I an expert, so I'll leave this thread alone.

I've heard quite a bit of rap in my day. I've never really thought of Beck to be a rapper.
I guess if I were to examine his truest rap (from the albums I've heard) I'd listen to Midnite Vultures. I'd say most diehard rap fans would listen to it and consider it a joke just because rap isn't very layered or open to interpreting; it's very straight forward. I thinks thats one major difference that seperates Beck's lyrics from rappers so I'd say he couldn't really be looked at as a rapper IMO.

Theers definitely a hip-hop element in beck's music... the fact that he's a break dancer kinda shows this side fo him.. no one really breaks to led zeppelin.
I agree that beck's lyrics aren't very layered or open to interpretation, but really, how much of rap now-a-days is? I think one of my favourite beck lyrics of all time is 'In a time of chimpanzees, I was a monkey' from 'Where it's At'.
I don't think that beck is a rapper, btu there definitely is some rap influence in his work.

I wish Beck would make another Midnite Vultures.
Hollywood Freaks is one of my favorite Beck songs.
