Audioslave - Audioslave (2002)

The most anticipated debut of one of the most shocking combination of Cornell joining former Rage Against The Machine to form Audioslave. Before the forming of Audioslave Cornell worked with well known grunge band Soundgarden. He had throat surgery which is the reason why he sounds somewhat different from his previous work when he screams. Audioslave brings Rage Against The Machine's; well rage, and Cornell's high-powered vocals. As I said Audioslave's anticipation and high pressure to make a good record falls short on this album.

There are some tracks that are decently enough to listen to. The intro track which is 'Cochise' sets the mood for the album. Cornell's overpowering voice, Morello's riffs, Tim Commerford's bass, and Wilk's hard hitting drums. Tracks such as Gasoline, Shadows On The Sun, an Exploder are decent tracks to listen too. Though most of the album has it's low points this album isn't a bad debut, it's good enough if you want to just rock out .

Most of the album consists of Cornell showing off. Though I don't blame anyone but, Tom Morello really isn't showcased as much as his guitar should be on this album. Though this album is filled with his riffs not many are very memorable.

Final Grade: B-

I totally agree. I used to love this album, but Cornell's singing got old fast.

I would regret buying this ablum, but if it wasn't for it, it may not have delved deeper into Soundgarden.

I think it's a rather pathetic album when it comes to a number of songs. Other than that, I would rather be listening to one of the original bands (Rage or Soundgarden....for me, more likely the latter).

Oh, and I call dibs on doing reviews for these albums: "Alice in Chains" and "Abbey Road."

Decent review. I'd have given it a C or less though coz after a couple of listens it gets really irritating(such as Cochsie)

wow! 2002? time flies!

throat surgery explains a lot.
I think it's a decent effort, especially for a 'debut'
BUT, Morello and Cornell have such strong identities and I'm not sure that they really 'mesh' for me.
you know, neither fish nor fowl.

It's REAL well produced and the package is nice. I'll admit to being a little thrilled on the first couple listens but it wore off pretty fast. I'd give it a strong c+ just cause I'm a sucker for a good crunchy rock and roll album and because it comes out of the speakers so well.

i bought the album for $10 bucks somewhere (i think it was the airport) and it wasn't too bad but yes, it does get quite irritating once you listen to it a few times. wot i found disappointing was that there wasn't any aggression in morello's guitar. he must've left that behind when Zach de la Rocha left RATM.

I've already written about half of the review anyways....

and one other thing about Audioslave...I feel in some ways sad that Cornell never picks up a guitar, but I feel at the same time that I would even more pissed if he did.
