yes, i listened to it ALREADY! i know, i need to wait for the official release with the album art and names . . . etc. but really, as an admirer of Rob and Shawn's singular collectiveness genius, i felt it would be interesting to take a listen..a trying step into the new atmosphere that is level and untilted, but in a new way. i decided to listen to the disc without any knowledge of track names. after reading a recent article with Shawn, i was really excited to give his idea a try:
“There’s more space. It’s less like walking into an ornate palace, more like into something more refined, but solidly constructed. More skeletal, with more smooth edges. But, all these are crappy impressions. Trying to put synaesthetics into words leaves me sounding like a cheesy bastard using all these cheesy visual metaphors, it ends up sounding like ‘Cathedral of Sound’ “We did a lot of the tracks for this album during the day, in the afternoon, I just realised, that might be why.the idea comes down to the point that their music is not about a preconceived idea, but sound that exists purely in its own space for the listener to visualize. so the other night i put it in for a couple of tracks..yeah, not even the whole thing. for one, i reached this state of unconscious thought (where you basically fall asleep but are still aware of things around you..and of course sound) and didn't want this to interfere with my overall experience with the music. so i turned it off and thought about what i had heard.
this recording, to me, is about a very bright space. its so pristine and clean. unlike anything i had heard. it feels like that room in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory where the kid gets particle-ized into the t.v. i visualized this extremeness in the music. it was powerful and spacious. i cannot say really anything else yet, but i'd like to add more.
this is the greatness of their music. interpretations can be as cheesy as you like! but nonetheless, they occur, where else can we experience worlds like this? well i know you all have other artists in mind, but i can't really experience this with anyone else. is it my own obsession and stereotypical Autechre fandom emotional attachment? i dunno. but this album is exciting as every has been. i'd just like to know if im crazy, or if you have any thoughts on the album (from what you might have heard from dl'ing samples or obtainment of it through other means).
i just cannot wait to have the physical copy in my hands soon...thanks for listening, and please, feel free to shake your head, or even fist at my post! lol
