tanjello: your a fan of the UK punk scene, which is cool, but im like your oposite... i enjoy the american stuff. bad religion, ramones, misfits, and afi are the first bands i ever actually liked... in my entire life. i started to have a taste in music when the lovely world of napster introduced me to stuff that wasnt mainstream, which happened to be those four.
after i found out about those fantstic four, i moved into a whole new world of music, not all punk however... NOFX was a massive influence on my ability to play anything musical on my guitar. of course i had to like the Sex Pistols, and their tour buddies the clash. it seemed like the more i learned about sex pistols just increased how much i liked their music. i think some very notable bands are: anti flag, the casualies, black flag, strung out, dropkick murphies, and the vandals
so anyways, theres mention of what i listen to and enjoy.
like all cool people im also in a band. if you ever see a band called "eaten alive", you better f'in buy it! anyways, we try to go with the flow and have a lot of fun playing our music. our lyrics seem to be a lot like stuff you might find with iron maiden and misfits... walk of the dead, we are the prophets, kill kill kill... our first solid three songs. people say we sound like something between sex pistols and the OLD afi with misfits telling us what to do... whatever, i find it fun, and kill kill kill is something more like the casualties.
anyways... im actually interesed in hearing how many of you have a band, and what you do with your sound.
oh yea, theres a band on the local scene here that sometimes travels.. its called "SHE KILLS" and their the best f'in band ive heard come out of these parts. go see them if they hit your town.

well talking about the american and uk punk scence i like them both. i think each one of them is unique in their own way. anyway my favorite bands are american, NOFX and antiflag. i like Bad Religion too but i cannot say they are my favorite because i dont know much about them...i didnt live in the 80' =(....but i have heard a little bit of all....from the uk i like the exploited and the clash.
i have a band too you know but we still suck. its hard to explain what kind of music we play because i like to play more like a punkish thing and the bass player likes metal (shes a goth by the way), and the drummer is kinda emo.. :S .. so we just try to mix all this influence up....some people say we sound like the distillers but i dont think so they where good, we are not that good...i hope someday we can be good=). our band name is taking it back! so suporte us if some day you know something about us...lol
ps. tanjello....thank u so much...

yea, mixing influences is definately a cool thing to do. the drummer for my band makes such old school beats that i could go insane... so i try to pump out some punk/metal guitar riffs to liven things up a tad... our bassist is a prodigy! i'll honestly NEVER get that good on a bass, even if i dropped my guitar and played it from now till i die (yea, i play bass on the side too, and drums... but i suck at drums). but yea, hes got some serious funk and metal influences going on there, and its a cool combo with my "so fast even the simple becomes tricky" style, and the "im so flat and simple" drum line.
the thing with music around here is that you dont have to be gods to draw a crowd, you dont hve to be super duper.. and you dont ven really have to be that good... you just have to NOT suck to go places. even with three songs under our belt, and a very very small crowd following us around (like 4 regular practice watchers), we've already been talking to two people who have sound studios who will record us for free. one is the chello player for natallie McMaster (hes cool as shat, we jam with his 12 year old kid sometimes and help him record his own cd's) and the other we've only talked to like four times, but he produced the backstreet boys at one time and hes friends with our drummers dad. yea yea yea, im not a fan of the backstreet boys, but look at how many people they've entertained! plus... hes an accessorie to a crime called "boy band"
anyways, if we ever do get around to recording, ill post it all over here to get our sound out!

ok, my bad tanjello... next time ill make sure to analyze posts better before i reply.
but i do have to disagree with your view on local scene dumbsticks... now i cant speak for australia here so maybe what you say is completely true for your area, but my experiances so far have been more than enjoyable. most bands ive talked to from my area are awesome... even the stuck up bands will still chill with everyone and have fun. it my just be the culture here in eastern canada to be cool with everything... i know most out of town bands comment on either our colourful houses, or how good we treat them. so... i duno, come to canada and ill go to australia and maybe we'll both see each others side.
whatever, i think the local scene in halifax is good.
